PayPal Fee Calculator FAQs

What is a PayPal fee calculator?

A PayPal fee calculator is a tool that helps you understand the costs associated with using PayPal for transactions. Since fees can reduce your profits, our calculator shows you exactly how much you will receive after fees and, more importantly, how much you should bill a client to ensure you get the full amount you deserve.

Why do I need a PayPal calculator?

The main reasons are speed and accuracy. Manually calculating fees, especially for international transactions with different rates, is time-consuming and prone to error. Our calculator gives you instant, error-free results for any country we support, saving you time and ensuring you never undercharge a client.

How much will PayPal charge me to receive money?

The fee is not one-size-fits-all. It depends on several factors, including your country, the buyer's country (domestic vs. international), and the currency. For example, a standard domestic transaction in the U.S. might be 2.99% + $0.49, while an international transaction could have an additional 1.5% cross-border fee. Use the calculator above for a precise estimate based on your specific situation.

How do you calculate the “You should ask for” amount?

This amount is calculated to perfectly cover PayPal's fees. It's not as simple as adding the fee to your price, because PayPal also takes a fee from that added amount. Our calculator uses a reverse formula— `(Your Desired Amount + Fixed Fee) / (1 - Percentage Rate)` —to determine the exact total you need to invoice to receive your target amount after all deductions.

What types of PayPal fees are there?

There are three main types of fees for commercial transactions:

Standard Domestic Fee: This is the base rate you're charged when you receive a payment from someone in the same country as you.

International Fee: This usually includes the domestic rate plus an additional cross-border fee when the payment comes from a different country.

Currency Conversion Fee: If you receive a payment in a currency you don't hold, PayPal charges an additional fee to convert it to your primary currency.
