History and Service
Xpresspost replaced the former Special Letter and Special Occasion Letter services on September 1, 1993, introducing a guaranteed delivery feature with toll-free automated delivery confirmation based on weight and distance zones.
The 1993 launch was part of Canada Post’s broader modernization under the Canada Post Corporation Act of 1981, positioning Xpresspost as a faster and more cost-effective alternative to couriers.
Domestic Xpresspost™ provides next-day delivery in local and regional zones and two-day delivery nationally under normal conditions, subject to the on-time guarantee which may be suspended during peak periods or exceptional events.
Internationally, Xpresspost–USA™ offers 2–3 business-day tracked delivery to major U.S. centres, including signature on delivery, hassle-free customs clearance, and the same on-time guarantee for most states.
