Sri Lanka Post has been serving the country since 1798, making it one of Sri Lanka’s longest – established public institutions. Today, its network covers all 25 districts, supported by more than 600 Main Post Offices and over 3,400 Sub – Post Offices and Agency Post Offices.
That nationwide presence allows postal services to reach busy cities as well as smaller towns and rural communities through a single government – operated network.
The tracking number depends on the service you use. A tracking number can answer a simple question: Has my parcel started moving, or is it already close to delivery? Whether you’re waiting for an EMS shipment from overseas, a registered letter, or a domestic Speed Post parcel, Sri Lanka Post Tracking lets you check its progress without visiting a post office.
International EMS shipments follow the standard UPU 13 – character format, such as EE123456789LK, making them recognizable across postal networks worldwide. Registered mail and domestic Speed Post items use Sri Lanka Post’s own tracking identifiers, allowing customers to monitor important letters, documents, and parcels throughout the delivery process.
If you’re unsure whether a tracking number is valid, checking the format is often a good place to start before searching for shipment updates.
To look up your shipment, enter your tracking number in the Track & Trace tool on the official Sri Lanka Post website. If you want to keep all your shipments in one place, you can also use the Synctrack Tracking Page at https://synctrack.io/couriers/ by entering your Sri Lanka Post tracking number.
Many people associate Sri Lanka Post with letters and parcels, but its services extend well beyond standard mail.
For urgent domestic deliveries, Speed Post provides faster transportation between cities, towns, and rural areas, with typical delivery times of 24 to 48 hours. Customers sending parcels abroad can choose EMS (Express Mail Service), which connects Sri Lanka with more than 190 countries through the Universal Postal Union network.
The postal service also offers Registered Mail for documents that require tracking and recipient confirmation, along with domestic and international parcel services transported by road, sea, or air depending on the destination.
Across Sri Lanka, post offices also function as community service centers. Customers can transfer funds through the Electronic Money Order (E – MO) service, pay utility bills, and access postal code lookup tools directly through the official website.
For stamp collectors, Sri Lanka Post’s Philatelic Bureau continues to issue commemorative and official postage stamps celebrating the country’s history, culture, and national events.
If you need help with a shipment or postal service, you can reach Sri Lanka Post through its official support channels.

Most Sri Lanka Post tracking numbers follow the international UPU format. They usually begin with two letters, followed by nine digits, and end with LK. For example, RR123456789LK or EE123456789LK. The first two letters indicate the shipping service, such as Registered Mail or EMS.
Tracking updates don’t always appear immediately. Your package may be waiting for its first scan, traveling between sorting facilities, or going through customs if it’s an international shipment. If the tracking hasn’t changed for several business days, it’s a good idea to contact Sri Lanka Post for assistance.
Yes. International services such as EMS and Registered Mail can usually be tracked using the same tracking number. Once the parcel reaches the destination country, you may also be able to continue tracking it through the local postal service.
In Transit means your package is still moving through the postal network and hasn’t reached the delivery office yet.
Out for Delivery means the package has arrived at the local post office and is with a delivery officer for delivery that day.
