Founded in 1958, Averitt Express began as Livingston Merchant’s Co-Op under Thurman Averitt’s leadership. Incorporated as Averitt Express in 1969, the company expanded rapidly after Gary Sasser acquired it in October 1971 with just three tractors and five trailers.
